Challenge:
Sun City Resort, with four luxury hotels and multiple pools, aimed to reduce its reliance on the national grid, meet Eskom’s 10% demand reduction target, and maintain aesthetics and quiet operation. Three large pools required efficient heating to maintain 28°C.
Solution:
Solahart engineered a custom hybrid heating solution:
- Water-to-Water Heat Pump Systems for the Palace of the Lost City and Cascades Hotel pools, drawing heat from a nearby river.
- Air-to-Water Heat Pump System for the Sun City Vacation Club pool due to its distance from water sources.
- System Installed: 10 x HWWP80-3, 2 x HWP80-3
Hot Water Requirements:
- Palace of the Lost City: 1,200,000 L/day at 28°C
- Cascades Hotel: 900,000 L/day at 28°C
- Vacation Club: 273,000 L/day at 28°C
Results:
- Energy Savings: 3.6GWh annually
- Demand Reduction: 420kW
- Environmental Impact: Lower reliance on the national grid
