Where to buy

With over 70 years of expertise and a network of local dealers around the world, Solahart delivers trusted solar solutions and expert support every step of the way.

Commercial heat pump systems use renewable energy from air or water to deliver hot water efficiently and reliably. Designed for large-scale applications, they provide consistent performance regardless of solar availability and can significantly reduce energy consumption compared to conventional systems.

These systems can operate independently or be integrated with solar solutions as part of a complete hot water system.

Why Heat Pumps for Commercial Projects?

  • Consistent performance in all weather conditions
  • High efficiency compared to conventional systems
  • Scalable for a wide range of applications
  • Can operate independently or alongside solar
  • Supports reduced energy consumption

How Heat Pump Systems Work

Heat pump systems extract heat from the surrounding environment and use a refrigeration cycle to increase temperature. This energy is then transferred into water, which is stored or distributed for use across the building or facility.

This process allows heat pumps to generate more heat energy than the electrical energy they consume, delivering high-efficiency performance across a wide range of operating conditions.

Designed for commercial applications

Heat pump systems are designed to meet the demands of buildings requiring a reliable, high-volume hot water supply.

Typical applications include:

  • Hotels and accommodation
  • Healthcare facilities
  • Commercial buildings
  • Industrial and processing facilities
  • Sports and aquatic centres

Systems can be scaled and configured to suit a wide range of building sizes and demand profiles.

Flexible system configuration

Heat pump systems are highly adaptable and can be configured to suit different building requirements.

Common configurations include:

  • Multiple units operating in parallel to increase total system capacity
  • Integration with storage tanks to manage demand and improve efficiency
  • Modular systems that allow staged installation and future expansion
  • Systems designed to work with new or existing infrastructure

This flexibility allows systems to be tailored to available space, demand profiles and installation constraints.

System Types

Heat pump systems can be configured using different technologies depending on the application and available energy source:

Air to water Systems

Capture heat from ambient air to produce hot water. These systems are suitable for most commercial applications and provide reliable performance across a wide range of climates.

Water to water systems

Use a water source to transfer heat, typically in buildings with integrated HVAC systems. These systems can achieve very high efficiency and are suited to applications with stable water temperatures.

Specialised applications

Heat pump systems can also be configured for specific uses such as pool heating, industrial processes or large scale developments, depending on system design.

Key System Components

These systems are made up of several integrated components, each designed to maximise performance, efficiency and reliability.

Heat pump units

Use compressors and heat exchangers to convert ambient energy into usable heat. Systems can include multiple units operating together to increase total output and deliver hot water up to 65°C with a system Coefficient of Performance (COP) up to 4.0 at 20°C ambient temperature, ensuring reliable operation.

Storage Tanks

Store heated water and help balance supply and demand. Available in nominal capacities of 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000 L. Multiple tanks of the same capacity can be manifolded in parallel to store larger volumes for reduced footprint and installation flexibility.

Circulation and distribution

Move heated water between system components and across the building or facility. Proper system design ensures efficient energy transfer and consistent hot water delivery.

Control systems

Monitor and regulate system operation, including temperature control, staging of heat pump units and integration with building management systems.

Performance and Efficiency

Heat pump systems are designed to deliver high efficiency by using renewable energy from the surrounding environment.

They can produce multiple units of heat energy for every unit of electricity consumed, making them significantly more efficient than conventional electric or gas heating systems.

Because they do not rely on sunlight, heat pumps provide consistent performance day and night, across a wide range of climates and operating conditions.

Installation and design considerations

Performance depends on system design and site conditions, including:

  • Available plant space for system layout
  • Airflow or water source availability
  • System sizing and configuration
  • Integration with storage and distribution systems

Systems can be designed to meet specific project requirements and optimise performance based on local conditions.

Reliable hot water across all conditions

Heat pump systems are designed to provide a consistent and controllable hot water supply regardless of environmental conditions.

They operate independently of solar availability and can maintain required water temperatures during peak demand or changing operating conditions, ensuring reliable performance.

When combined with solar technologies, heat pumps can further enhance system efficiency and reduce overall energy consumption.
